The purpose of PALS volunteers is to support teachers and to contribute to the students’ learning environment. Parent involvement is critical to the success of our purpose. Whether you volunteer once or on a regular basis, we appreciate you, and realize we couldn’t do it without you!
PALS has prepared many exciting activities for our school and we want YOU to get in on the action! Below is a listing of all the board and committees positions that exist within the PALS group. Some require a little time, some require more time, some can be done from home, some are ongoing activities and some only happen once.

Board Positions (voting rights)
President
Preside over all PALS monthly meetings, serve as the primary contact between the organization and the principal, staff, and parents; represent the organization at meetings outside the organization; serve as the ex officio member of all committees, and coordinate the work of all the officers and committees so that the purpose of the organization is served. Vice President The vice president shall assist the president and carry out the president's duties in his or her absence or inability to serve. Secretary The secretary shall keep all records of the organization, take and record minutes, prepare the agenda and keep a copy of the minutes book, bylaws, rules, and any other necessary supplies and bring them to meetings. Treasurer The treasurer shall receive all funds of the organization, make permanent record of receipts and expenditures, and pay out funds in accordance with the approval of the executive board. He or she will present a financial statement at every meeting and at other times of the year when requested by the executive board, and make a full report at the end of the year. Also responsible for driving the yearly Budgeting process. Communications Chair Maintain the PALS website and Facebook page, creates a monthly newsletter and backpack fliers for communication with parents on PALS events. |
Fundraising Chair
Research fundraising organizations and make decisions to meet PALS fundraising goals. The position is the lead for the Spot-a-Thon, which is our major fundraiser for PALS. Advertise to parents, procure donations, run drawings, determine volunteer needs, distribute prizes to students, supply tax deductible receipts when requested. Literacy Chair Oversees all literacy activities including the coordination of the Scholastic Book Fairs. Book Fairs are run in the fall, and spring to provide students, teachers, and parents with the opportunity to purchase Scholastic books. Literacy Chair works with the book supplier, coordinates dates with the school, and recruits volunteers to assist with operation of fairs with at least one evening book fair open to the public. Volunteer Chair This position will maintain an active list of parents and their contact information and help find the appropriate number of volunteers required to support PALS events. Create signup forms on SignUpGenuis.com for each event and communicate needs to parents. Ensure that the volunteer’s responsibilities are clearly defined and communicated. |
Literacy Positions
Assistant Literacy Chair
This is an assistant position with the current Literacy Chair, in which you will learn how the existing literacy activities are handled including coordination of the Scholastic Book Fairs. The position will then become the Literacy Chair. Sasquatch Party Lead The Sasquatch Party Lead is responsible for helping the librarian with planning and hosting of the Sasquatch Party. This position will help with planning and procurement of the entertainment, prizes, and refreshments for this event. |
Bookworm Bazaar Lead
The Bookworm Bazaar Lead assists the librarian in the running of the bazaar which runs at lunch three times during the school year. They will assist in ensuring there are enough prizes for the events, and coordinating with teachers and staff on enrichment experiences for purchase. |
Fundraising Positions
Assistant Fundraising Chair
This is an assistant position with the current Fundraising Chair, in which you will learn how the existing fundraising activities are handled, including the Sport-a-Thon. This position will then become the Fundraising Chair. Affiliate Program Lead This position will research ways PALS can receive funds through passive fundraising sources. The main activity for this position is primarily to identify additional passive fundraising options, learning the specifics of the new and existing programs and communicating to our members the opportunity to raise funds for PALS through their normal purchasing activity. This position should require the least amount of time of all the fundraising activities. |
Grants Lead
This position is responsible for overseeing the grants process through the Camas Educational Foundation (CEF) as well as any other grant programs that may be available to support our school. |
Events and Activities Positions
Fall Fest Lead
Oversee and coordinate all aspects of the Harvest Carnival which occurs in late October, This including determining and securing the the games, activities and prizes, arrange for food & decorations, coordination of bingo and cake walk, and determine volunteer needs. Dance Lead Coordinate all aspects of the spring dance including securing the DJ, arrange for decorations, food items for sale and determine volunteer needs. Movie Nights Lead Coordination of movie nights includes selection of the movie, purchase raffle prizes, oversee the set-up in the gym, arrange for popcorn and other food items for sale, and determine volunteer needs. |
Birthday Table Lead
Organizes the monthly birthday table during the lunch periods, including securing the treats for the kids and the decoration of the table. Teacher Appreciation Lead Organizes the recognition of teachers during Teacher Appreciation Week. 5th Grade Celebration Lead Procure and serve cake, send out invitations, etc. at the celebration event. Special Occasion/Celebration Lead Plan and organize volunteers for one off events such as Winter Celebration Hot Cocoa and Candy Canes. |
Other Positions
Spirit Wear Lead
Collect Spirit Wear orders throughout the year, place the school's order with vendor, distribute merchandise when received, set up Spirit Wear table at school events. |
Yearbook Lead
This position is responsible for planning for the yearbook, coordinating orders, obtaining photos, organizing the yearbook and verifying the accuracy of the information included in the Yearbook. |
