FROM OUR LLE COMMUNITY

Principal for the Day

By: Jorge Cubero

Through our PALS auction, I won “Principal for the Day” where my two daughters are students at Lacamas Lake Elementary School. I shadowed our principal, Mrs. Mueller, giving me an experience to see firsthand how our school operates as both an educational institution and community hub. I participated in the morning message as well as providing select classrooms lessons on “Perseverance”. I was deeply impressed by how teachers connected with students. Their methods emphasized collaboration, curiosity, and resilience, reminding me that education is not just about academics but about preparing students for life’s challenges.

At the end, I was fortunate enough to take questions from students about my military career to demonstrate the importance of determination and grit. This experience reinforced my belief that education is a partnership between teachers, students, and parents. Parental involvement is vital not just attending conferences or assemblies, but actively engaging in the school community. As parents, we are the foundation of our children success, and our involvement strengthens both their growth and the Camas community. In a country rooted in shared values like perseverance, hard work, and responsibility, being a parent means upholding those principles and leading by example. Participating in this role reminded me that when parents show up for their children, we’re reinforcing the ideals that unite us as Americans. I encourage all parents to find ways to engage with their child’s education.

Thank you, Lacamas Lake Elementary School, for this incredible experience and for reminding me of the impact we can all make when we work together.

AUCTION UPDATE
The auction concluded on Sunday, December 8th and boy was it a push all the way until the last minute. Thanks to all our local donors (staff, parents, local business etc.) we raised over $10K to help fund school programs, teacher grants and events.

If you have not collected your item(s) yet, they may be picked up at the school through this Friday (during school hours) and will pause until school resumes on January 6th. If you won an experience, all communications were sent by Dec 12th to the email you registered in Bidding Owl from "[email protected]".  If you didn't receive anything, please check your spam/junk folder or email the team at [email protected]. If you wish for your items(s) to be sent home with your leopard, please email the team as well to request.

Again, thank you everyone for helping this be a big success!

FUNDRAISING & BUDGET UPDATE
We have amazing news to share in regards to our fundraising efforts and budget for the rest of the school year. We hit our minimum fundraising goal for the year!

What do we mean by minimum? To offer all the things on the calendar as well as the teacher grants and special programs, we needed to raise approximately $25,000. Anything above that allows for more flexibility. For example, additional funds allow for us to bring a DJ to the Spring Dance, new games offered at Field Day, a more exciting special assembly, and to help replenish legacy funds.

What are legacy funds? Legacy funds are utilized to purchase items to give to our school that has a life expectancy of over one years. For example, the new picnic tables in our outside courtyard, the large leopard door mats at main entrances, board games to play at recess on rainy days, or the equipment  needed to create the Spot Ya Store.

In an effort to be more transparent, here is a basic breakdown for the rest of the school year:

Funds Raised to Date: $26K
Via: Direct Drive, Payback, Auction, Dine Outs, Spirit wear, concessions

Funds rolled over from last year: $7.5K
$3K bylaw allowance + $4.5K earmarked for teacher grants

Funds Spent to Date: $5K
Allocated towards: Kindergarten Orientation & Back to School, Movie Night License, Fall Festival, Bingo Night, Read 'n Quiz, Birthday Table, Spot Ya Store inventory

Anticipated Costs though the end of the year: $25K
 - Events $12K
 - Programs $3K
 - Teacher Grants & Staff Appreciation $9K
 - Admin Expenses $1K

If there are additional questions, please reach out to [email protected] or attend our January 8th meeting where this is discussed.

AMAZON WISHLIST
Have you checked your student's Classroom Amazon Wishlist in a while? Teachers use this all year long to communicate wants and needs for the classroom for projects, reading corners, or even "free time". Unable to volunteer time, but want to find a way to give back? Communication Reminder
A quick reminder in regards to all PALS communications is that all future updates will always be available right here at:
lacamaspals.weebly.com > News & Updates.

We elected to do this to direct all PALS information to one location. Our goal is to have two major updates each month and to utilize Parent Square only for quick reminders. For example, See you tonight at Dine Out Night or Our online auction is still looking for donations.

Below are a few examples on how to use this page.
1) Want to volunteer for the book fair or find out the dates and times it takes place? Go to Get Involved > Book Fair.
2) Been hearing about the Direct Drive Fundraiser and don't know what it is or how to donate? Go to Fundraising > Direct Drive.
3) Want to plan in advance for upcoming events? Go to Activities & Events for the school year calendar.

We hope this clears up any confusion and that this becomes a better resource for everyone. Please book mark this page for quick future reference.

Fall Fest Donations
Fall Fest is right around the corner and outside of volunteers, we could also really use your help with donations of candy, items from our Amazon Wishlist and mini cakes. We use these for trick-or-treating, game prizes and our infamous cake walk.

Candy: individually wrapped candy only.
Amazon Wish List: Click here to view.
Mini-Cakes: individually wrapped only. Great suggestions are Hostess or Little Debbie's.

In case you are curious, are budget to put on this event is only $1,000. That includes bringing in new games, decor, prizes and more. We appreciate any and all help with the above! Also, don't forget to add the actual event to your calendar - Saturday, October 26th from 6:00 - 8:00 PM. See you there!

Direct Drive Update
To date we are at $2,340 of our $15,000 goal. There have been whispers in the hall of what movie the kids are hoping to see when they hit $10K. Personally, we are stoked for the human carwash once we hit our BIG GOAL! Haven't donated yet? Click here to be directed to our donation page. Every dollar counts and we appreciate your support!

Online Auction
Fundraising has been busy out in the community asking for donations for our online auction. Wanna know a secret though? There is only two rockstars heading this up and they really need your help! So far they have collected approximately 20 of the desired 100+ items that are due by November 15th to be available for bidding.

Ways to help:
1) At the nail salon - ask the salon if they would be willing to donate a mani/pedi to the LLE fundraising auction.
2) Does your student take singing, karate, guitar, or horse lessons - ask their instructor if they would donate four lessons to the auction.
3) Are you a regular at any restaurant in Clark County - Ask them to donate a gift card to your student's school auction.
4) Can you build something really cool like a picnic table, front porch swing, planter boxes, etc - we would love to offer them at the auction and would be happy to share your work and FaceBook page on ours.

These are just a few ideas. Get creative! When you're ready, please submit the Online Auction Entry form found at the bottom of the page of Fundraising > Online Auction or by clicking here.

Payback Update
Payback Books had a new look this year. Apps! Collectively, we sold 134 apps which raised $1340 for PALS to put on special events and programs at LLE. Thank you for your help!

Dine Out Update
Five Guys' final numbers are not in yet, but Menchies has already sent us a check for $235. We're estimating approximately $500 was raised that night - All because we broke bread out in the community...or maybe it was fries and fro-yo! Our next up will be at Panera on November 6th. Mark your calendars!
